Calendox vs CB Exchange Server Sync: Tenant Sync and Price

By CalendoxPublished Updated 11 min read

Two calendar windows side by side, a week view and an agenda view, joined by the rows this page compares, from calendars and sync directions to trial and price

Calendox publishes this page and is one of the two products compared. CB Exchange Server Sync details come from the public sources linked under Sources; we have not tested CB Exchange Server Sync hands-on. How we compare

In short

Calendox and CB Exchange Server Sync both sync calendars between Microsoft 365 tenants and between Google and Microsoft. CB Exchange Server Sync syncs whole mailboxes, priced per sync pair with metered traffic. Calendox syncs calendar events only, priced per user or per imported secondary-tenant calendar. It suits people who sync their own calendars, and admins who sync calendars between Microsoft 365 tenants.

  • Calendox prices calendar sync per user or per imported secondary-tenant calendar, with no traffic metering. CB Exchange Server Sync prices per sync pair of two mailboxes, which also covers mail, contacts and tasks.
  • For one person syncing a Google and a Microsoft calendar, Calendox Basic costs less than one CB Exchange Server Sync pair. On yearly tenant sync, Calendox Enterprise costs less up to 200 pairs and more from 301.
  • Calendox Enterprise pairs calendars automatically when the email username and the calendar name both match, after one admin consent per Microsoft 365 tenant. Employees never sign in.
  • Calendox connects your own mailbox calendars on Exchange Server 2016 or later, on Personal and Business accounts. CB Exchange Server Sync also covers an older Exchange release, shared mailboxes and mailbox migration.

Why Calendox

  • Pay per user or calendar, not per mailbox pair

Calendox syncs calendar events only and prices Personal and Business plans per user and Enterprise per imported secondary-tenant calendar, with unlimited synced events and no traffic metering.

  • One admin consent per Microsoft 365 tenant

On an Enterprise account, an admin of each Microsoft 365 tenant grants tenant-wide consent once, employees never sign in, and calendars pair by matching email username and calendar name.

  • Monthly billing at any volume

Enterprise seats are billed monthly or yearly at the same per-calendar price whatever the quantity, and master-tenant calendars are free.

  • Google and Microsoft calendars in any mix

Sync Google with Google, Microsoft with Microsoft or Google with Microsoft, personal Gmail and Outlook.com included, one way or multi-way, with no Exchange or Microsoft 365 side required.

Choose Calendox if…

  • You only need calendars kept in sync and want to pay per user or per calendar, not per mailbox pair.
  • You sync Microsoft 365 calendars between tenants for up to 200 people on yearly terms, or at any size on monthly terms.
  • You want each tenant's admin to consent once, automatic pairing when the email username and calendar name match, and CSV import for the rest, so employees never sign in.
  • You sync Google with Google or Microsoft with Microsoft calendars, personal Gmail and Outlook.com included.
  • You want one sync to keep several calendars in step, or one source copied into several targets, rather than one pair per mailbox.
  • You'd rather not meter traffic: synced events are unlimited, and Calendox limits how many calendars and syncs you run, not how much they sync.

Questions

How do Calendox and CB Exchange Server Sync price calendar sync?

Calendox prices per user, or per imported secondary-tenant calendar on Enterprise, while CB Exchange Server Sync, CB for short, prices per sync pair. On Connecting Software's pricing page, a sync pair is two mailboxes, and one pair covers every data type enabled for them, in one or both directions: calendars, mail, contacts and tasks.

The rate per pair depends on the band the total number of pairs falls in, from 1 to 4 pairs up to 3,001 to 10,000. Each pair includes 500 MB of traffic a month, with extra traffic sold in prepaid packs, and 15 minutes of support a year. Monthly terms are offered up to 200 pairs. Above 200 pairs, the pricing page lists only 12-month terms, by quote. Prices in Connecting Software's webshop are in US dollars and exclude VAT.

Calendox Personal plans are priced per user and Business plans per seat, at the same price as the matching Personal plan. Each plan caps connected calendars and active syncs, and synced events are unlimited, with no traffic metering. Enterprise is billed for each calendar imported from a secondary tenant, at the same per-calendar price whatever the quantity, and master-tenant calendars are free. The Calendox pricing page shows current prices, in US dollars; taxes may apply.

Each row of the pricing table above prices one scenario on both sides. For one person keeping a Google and a Microsoft calendar in sync, Calendox Basic costs less than one CB sync pair, billed monthly or yearly, though the CB pair also syncs mail, contacts and tasks. For tenant sync where each person has one calendar synced into the other tenant, CB needs one pair per person and Calendox one seat per person. On yearly terms, Calendox Enterprise costs less up to 200 pairs, the two match at 201 to 300 pairs, and CB's quoted rates are lower from 301 pairs. On monthly terms, Calendox Enterprise's per-calendar price is below each of CB's monthly bands, and the pricing page lists no monthly term above 200 pairs.

What does each product sync?

Calendox syncs calendar events only, and CB Exchange Server Sync syncs whole mailboxes, chosen by data type. On Calendox, each sync picks which event fields to copy: title, description, participants, location and meeting link. Copies can be marked private and created without reminders. These settings are fixed when the sync is created (create your first sync). Calendox doesn't sync mail, contacts or tasks, and it doesn't migrate mailboxes.

The CB Exchange Server Sync product page lists calendars, contacts, tasks, email folders and messages, attachments and public folders, with shared mailboxes through a service account. The admin chooses per mailbox which data types, private items and subfolders sync. Keyword, sender and category filters, attachment removal and body trimming come from its self-hosted Data Filter add-on. It also migrates mailboxes, including Office 365 tenant-to-tenant moves with both accounts usable in parallel.

Which calendars can each connect?

Calendox connects Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook and on-premises Exchange Server calendars. CB Exchange Server Sync connects Exchange Server, Exchange Online, Microsoft 365 and Office 365, and Gmail and Google Workspace.

On Calendox, that means:

  • Google: Gmail and Google Workspace calendars.
  • Microsoft: Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live.com and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts.
  • Exchange Server: the calendars in your own mailbox on Exchange Server 2016 or later, connected with your mailbox address and Exchange password, on Personal and Business accounts (Exchange Server docs).

Calendars shared with you, delegate access and shared mailboxes aren't listed for Exchange Server, and Microsoft calendars owned by another mailbox can't be synced from your account. Calendox doesn't support Apple iCloud, CalDAV or .ics feeds. Any mix works: Google with Google, Microsoft with Microsoft, Google with Microsoft, and Exchange Server with any of them, one way or multi-way (multi-way sync). For what an Exchange Server can share on its own, read sync Exchange Server with Google or Microsoft 365.

The CB Exchange Server Sync product page lists Exchange Server 2016, 2019 and Subscription Edition, plus an older release, Exchange Online, Microsoft 365 and Office 365, and Gmail and Google Workspace, with separate editions for US government clouds and for air-gapped networks. Its Marketplace leave-behind PDF adds personal Outlook.com and Hotmail mailboxes. It runs as a vendor-hosted service with US or EU data residency or self-hosted. Calendox is a web app.

How does each pair calendars across Microsoft 365 tenants?

Both run admin-managed sync between Microsoft 365 tenants. The difference is in the pairing: CB Exchange Server Sync names each sync pair, singly or in batch, while Calendox pairs calendars automatically where the email username and calendar name match, after one consent per tenant.

With Calendox Enterprise:

  1. An administrator of each tenant grants tenant-wide consent once, so employees never sign in.
  2. The first tenant you connect is the master tenant, and its calendars are free. Each calendar imported from a secondary tenant uses one seat.
  3. A master-tenant calendar and a secondary-tenant calendar pair automatically when the email username (the part before the @) and the calendar name both match, ignoring case. The rest can be paired by hand or by CSV import.

An Enterprise account exists for tenant sync alone: it connects Microsoft 365 tenants, not Exchange Server, Google or personal Microsoft calendars, and it has no unified calendar or booking pages.

The CB Exchange Server Sync product page describes cross-tenant, cross-domain and cross-version sync, and Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration with both accounts usable in parallel. Sync pairs are named explicitly and can be created in batch. Its Marketplace listing describes syncing a central calendar to multiple users on the same or different domains, set up as one sync pair per user. Connecting Software's guide to server-side synchronization says mailbox-to-mailbox sync generally requires admin-level permissions on both the source and target systems. For what Microsoft 365 shares across tenants on its own, see calendar sync between two Microsoft 365 tenants.

How soon does a change show up on the other side?

Google and Microsoft notify Calendox as soon as an event changes, and Exchange Server changes reach Calendox within about 5 minutes (how Calendox sync works). A change typically arrives in under 30 seconds from Google Calendar and under 60 seconds from Microsoft Outlook. These figures are expectations, not guarantees.

The CB Exchange Server Sync product page describes a configurable synchronization interval, typically every 30 seconds, which the vendor calls near-real-time. On its hosted service, a shorter interval uses more of the metered traffic. Its Google Workspace edition page adds that after the initial transfer, only new or modified items are updated.

Where do users see synced calendars, and who gets booking pages?

CB Exchange Server Sync has no app of its own: synced items appear in users' existing clients, such as Outlook, Outlook on the web and Apple Mail. On Calendox, synced copies appear in the target calendars too, and Personal and Business accounts add a unified calendar and booking pages; Enterprise accounts have neither. Booking pages are not listed on Connecting Software's website.

  • Unified calendar: see all your connected Google, Microsoft and Exchange Server calendars in one working calendar, in six views, in the web app. New events and edits are written back to the calendar they belong to.
  • Booking pages: a booking page offers only the times when every connected calendar is free, because it checks all of them for conflicts by default. Zoom links work with any destination calendar once Zoom is connected; a Google Meet link needs a Google destination calendar, and a Teams link a work or school Microsoft one. Basic comes with 2 booking pages; Standard and Premium are unlimited, within fair-use limits.

What does each free trial include?

Calendox offers 14 days with no credit card, and CB Exchange Server Sync offers a 15-day hosted trial at $0 with no payment method at checkout. Calendox Personal and Business trials run at Premium-level limits, and an Enterprise trial syncs up to 5 imported secondary-tenant calendars in total. If the Calendox trial ends without a subscription, its syncs pause; your connections and settings stay, and syncing resumes once you subscribe. Connecting Software's trial page describes full functionality, 500 MB of traffic and 15 minutes of support, and doesn't state how many sync pairs the trial allows.

Both are sold through the Microsoft Marketplace. Calendox Marketplace plans include a free trial run by Microsoft, with its terms shown at checkout (Microsoft Marketplace). The CB Exchange Server Sync Marketplace listing offers five auto-renewing one-year plans, for 1 to 200 pairs, and points buyers to the vendor's 15-day trial.

What refund terms does each publish?

Calendox card subscriptions can be refunded, subject to review, if you cancel within 14 days of the first purchase and haven't used the service extensively (plans and billing). Purchases through the Marketplace follow Microsoft's terms. Refund or cancellation terms are not listed on Connecting Software's website. Its webshop describes a 1-month subscription as valid for 30 days.
